Privacy Notice

This notice explains how Young Women of Africa (YWOA) collects, uses and looks after your personal information when you visit this website, send us a message, or apply to become a member. We keep what we collect to a minimum, and we treat it with care. Last updated 11 June 2026.

Who we are

Young Women of Africa (YWOA) is a continental movement of young women across Africa. If you have any question about your privacy or about the information we hold, you can reach our contact for privacy matters at youngwomenofafrica2021@gmail.com.

What information we collect

We only receive personal information that you choose to give us. There are two ways this happens.

When you apply for membership through our application form, you share details such as your name, your email address, your age range, your country, and anything else the form asks. When you contact us by email or WhatsApp, we receive your name, your contact details, and whatever you write to us.

This website itself does not quietly collect anything about you. It does not build a profile of you or follow you around the internet.

How and why we use it

We use your information to reply to you, to review and process membership applications, to organise programmes and events, and to keep members informed about the work of the movement. We use it for these purposes only. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Cookies and tracking

This website uses no cookies, no analytics, and no advertising trackers. We do not record your visit or measure your behaviour. The fonts you see are served from our own website, so visiting these pages does not call outside services in the background.

The services that help us

Our membership application form is hosted on Google Forms, so the answers you submit there are stored by Google on our behalf. Messages you send us travel through WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta. These providers handle that information under their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read Google's policy and WhatsApp's policy.

Members under 18

Some of our members are young, and we welcome that. If you are between 14 and 17 years old, please apply with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian is welcome to contact us at any time to ask about, correct, or remove the information of a young person in their care.

Photographs and likeness

We publish photographs from our events and portraits of our leaders so that we can tell the story of the movement honestly and proudly. If you appear in a photograph on this site and you would prefer it was removed, please email us at youngwomenofafrica2021@gmail.com and we will take it down.

How long we keep it, and how we protect it

We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it, and for as long as the law requires. We take reasonable steps to keep it safe and to limit who can see it. When we no longer need it, we remove it.

Your rights

Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, you have real rights over your information. You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to how we use it. To do any of these, write to us at youngwomenofafrica2021@gmail.com.

If you feel we have not handled your information properly, you may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at complaints.IR@justice.gov.za.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time as the movement grows or as the law changes. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page. This version is effective from 11 June 2026.
